Shopify Maintenance and Support Services

Practical technical care for established Shopify stores

Keep your Shopify store dependable, easy to manage and ready for customers with practical maintenance and support from an experienced developer.

FNO Services Europe provides Shopify maintenance services for small businesses that already have an online store but need reliable technical help without employing a full-time developer or committing to a large agency retainer.

We can help with theme changes, Liquid code, app problems, catalogue tasks, storefront performance, checkout configuration, tracking, product feeds and integrations with other business systems.

You work directly with a developer who can understand the existing store, investigate problems carefully and recommend proportionate improvements without automatically pushing you towards a redesign.

This is independent technical support for your Shopify store. Account, subscription and platform-wide issues that only Shopify can resolve may need to be referred to Shopify Support.

Discuss Your Shopify Store

What is included in Shopify maintenance services?

The right maintenance arrangement depends on the theme, installed apps, sales channels, integrations and the frequency of changes required. Support can cover routine storefront work as well as difficult faults that cross several systems.

Theme and Liquid support

Theme settings, sections, templates, navigation, responsive layout, Liquid code, CSS, JavaScript and careful storefront customisation.

Shopify app troubleshooting

Investigating app conflicts, configuration problems, storefront scripts, permissions, unexpected behaviour and the effects of installing or removing an app.

Cart and checkout investigation

Reviewing cart behaviour, payment and shipping configuration, discount problems, checkout extensions and other issues within the access permitted by the store’s Shopify plan.

Products and catalogue work

Products, variants, collections, metafields, menus, content, imports, exports and structured catalogue changes.

Storefront performance

Reviewing theme code, apps, images, scripts and third-party features that can affect loading speed, responsiveness and visual stability.

Integrations and automation

APIs, webhooks, product feeds, marketplaces, inventory systems, reporting tools and scheduled workflows around the store.

Shopify website maintenance is different from WordPress maintenance

Shopify operates the hosted commerce platform and manages its underlying infrastructure. A Shopify store therefore does not require the same server, database, core software and plugin update routine as a self-hosted WordPress or WooCommerce website.

The merchant-controlled layer still changes constantly. Themes are customised, apps add scripts and business logic, catalogue data grows, integrations exchange orders and stock, and tracking requirements evolve. A small change in one area can affect the storefront, cart, reporting or customer journey elsewhere.

Our Shopify support services concentrate on this practical layer: keeping custom work understandable, testing changes, investigating faults and helping the store continue to serve the business reliably.

Support for Shopify stores built by another developer or agency

You do not need to be the original developer of a store to maintain it responsibly. We can begin by reviewing the current theme, custom code, apps, domains, integrations, staff access and any known problems.

The first objective is to understand what is already there and identify which parts are standard Shopify configuration, third-party app behaviour or bespoke work. We then agree on priorities before making consequential changes.

If access, ownership, documentation or supplier handover is uncertain, our Website Takeover Check provides a structured starting point.

Common Shopify problems we investigate

A theme change breaks the layout

Sections, templates or custom code can behave differently across products, screen sizes and theme versions.

An app conflicts with the storefront

App embeds, scripts and theme extensions can overlap or leave unwanted behaviour after configuration changes.

The cart or checkout behaves unexpectedly

Discounts, shipping rules, payment settings, markets and apps can influence what customers see and whether they can complete an order.

Products or variants are difficult to manage

Catalogue structure, bulk edits, imports, metafields and collection rules can become inconsistent as a store grows.

Tracking or conversion data is unreliable

Pixels, consent settings, app integrations and checkout events may need careful review across the complete customer journey.

Stock or order data stops synchronising

API credentials, webhooks, feeds and external systems can fail silently or process incomplete information.

The storefront becomes slow

Large media, theme code, app scripts, tracking tools and third-party features can all affect customer experience.

The previous developer is unavailable

We can review the current setup, document important dependencies and establish a safer basis for continuing support.

Safer Shopify theme and app changes

Consequential storefront work should have a clear rollback path. Before significant theme changes, we can duplicate or download the current theme and carry out development on an unpublished copy where practical.

Theme files are only one part of a Shopify store. Products, collections, pages, menus, files, customer information and app-managed data require separate consideration. Relevant exports and app-specific recovery options should be reviewed according to the task rather than presenting a theme copy as a complete store backup.

Apps also deserve regular scrutiny. We can review their purpose, storefront impact, permissions, compatibility information and recurring cost, then test carefully before removing or replacing anything that may hold important data or business logic.

We do not promise a risk-free change. We reduce avoidable risk by understanding dependencies, preserving appropriate copies or exports, testing proportionately and recording what was changed.

Shopify performance and storefront improvements

A Shopify store can be hosted on a strong platform and still feel slow to customers. Theme code, large images, videos, app scripts, tracking tags, review widgets, carousels and other third-party features all contribute to the experience.

We can review Shopify’s web performance reports alongside practical browser testing, identify likely causes and prioritise improvements according to their commercial value. Work may include image handling, script behaviour, theme sections, app usage and the order in which storefront features load.

Performance work is evidence-led. We do not promise a perfect score, and we do not remove useful selling features merely to improve a laboratory metric without considering the wider customer journey.

Shopify integrations and automation

Many established stores rely on systems beyond Shopify. Orders may pass to fulfilment software, products may arrive from suppliers, stock may be shared with marketplaces and management reports may combine several data sources.

We can investigate and build suitable connections using supported APIs, webhooks, feeds and scheduled processes. Typical work includes catalogue imports, inventory updates, order exports, marketplace data, CRM connections and operational reporting.

See our API integration services for more information about connecting websites and business systems.

If Shopify is being introduced as part of a platform move, we can also review the technical requirements through our website migration services.

Our Shopify maintenance process

1. Tell us what is happening

Describe the store, the business impact, recent changes and the result you need.

2. We review access and context

We confirm the appropriate collaborator or staff access and identify the relevant theme, apps and connected systems.

3. We agree on priorities

Urgent trading problems are separated from routine maintenance and longer-term improvements.

4. A safe working approach is chosen

Depending on the task, this may include a duplicate theme, exports, an unpublished preview and a defined rollback route.

5. Changes are tested

Relevant storefront, mobile, cart, checkout and integration journeys are checked according to the scope of the work.

6. Work is recorded

You receive a clear account of completed work, important findings and sensible next actions.

Frequently asked questions

What does Shopify maintenance involve on a hosted platform?

It focuses on the parts of the store controlled by the merchant: themes, apps, content, catalogue data, settings, tracking and integrations. Shopify manages the underlying hosted platform.

Can you maintain a store built by someone else?

Yes. We first review the current theme, apps, custom work, access and connected systems before making changes.

Can you troubleshoot Shopify apps?

Yes. We can investigate configuration, theme integration, scripts, extensions and compatibility issues. Problems inside a third-party service may also require help from its app developer.

Can you customise an existing Shopify theme?

Yes, subject to reviewing the theme, its licence, its existing customisations and the feasibility of the requested change.

Can you fix checkout and payment problems?

We can investigate settings, apps, extensions, shipping, discounts, tracking and payment behaviour within Shopify’s technical and plan-specific limits.

Do you back up Shopify stores?

We can preserve relevant theme copies and data exports according to the task. A downloaded theme is not a complete backup of products, content, files or app-managed data.

Can you improve Shopify store speed?

We can review theme code, media, app scripts, tracking and third-party features, then prioritise practical performance improvements.

Do we need Shopify Plus?

Not for ordinary maintenance. Some advanced checkout and enterprise capabilities are plan-specific, so we confirm what is possible for the store’s current plan.

Do you work internationally?

Yes. FNO Services Europe is based in Portugal and provides remote support to businesses in the UK, Europe and other international markets.
